Vital pest control tips

Startling pest and insect facts.

  • According to pestworld.org. Cockroaches can:

Want to avoid seeing these this season?

"Pavement ant"

Cockroaches, ants, mice, bees, lions, tigers, and bears. Oh my!

Frightening? Sure! But all of those look a lot less scary on paper than in your home.

While the last three aren’t as likely to show up in your home in Montreal as the rest (except for Yogi the Bear on TV), you still probably want to avoid the other organisms showing up uninvited.

Let’s put this into perspective. We have been living with all the above for millions of years.

As our dwellings evolved, we gradually distanced ourselves from the pests that so loved living with us. Now we are at the point our in our existence on Earth where we can (almost) totally shield ourselves from these pests, vermin, and man-eating carnivores.

Stay tuned – take note and take action!

The good news? Nowadays you CAN prevent these disease-bearing and stress-inducing pests from parading into your house. How? Well, we here at Exterminator SolX (with 35 years of pest-eradication experience) will show you in our ongoing pest control blog HOW to prevent these unwanted guests from checking in!

In our last blog post, we proffered that; some prevention is way more effective (and much less costly) than eradication, especially if you get a full-blown infestation.

From some simple house maintenance and lifestyle adjustments (cheap, or free) to professional preventive pest control interventions, there are a slew of tactics you can employ to never see these pests in your home (except on the TV!)

Love has nothing to do with it. It’s all about food!

Here are the basics. Most of these pests are looking for one thing. Food. So, one simple lifestyle adjustment (which you already may incorporate into your daily cleaning chores) is:

  • Don’t leave crumbs, food, or any other foodstuffs on counters, on the floor, or anywhere it can be sensed and eaten by an intruder.
  • Ongoing sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and wiping off countertops are highly-effective methods, if done regularly and properly.
  • Not leaving extra food in your pets’ bowls is a good start. Ants, cockroaches, and mice would love to dine with Fido when he is asleep and there is ample chow in his bowl when you feed him.
  • If you have children, you can teach them to not drop candy, cookie crumbs and other sweet edibles on the floor and not to leave them in their rooms.

While at first this may appear to be futile, explaining to them that bugs or mice eating the half-eaten candy bar they are saving means less candy bar for them to eat might work (unless they like to share!)

Clear clutter from around your home

Now since rats, mice and other pests need a place to hide.

  • Clearing unneeded boxes, containers, and other clutter from around the house, basement and attic is a good start to removing hiding spaces for pests.

Don’t let mosquitos breed

  • Since mosquitos (which can carry some nasty diseases) breed in standing water, make sure no ponding nor pooling water is on your property in the spring, summer, and fall.

This is key to not turning your yard into a mosquito breeding ground.

These are just some basic adjustments and maintenance ideas to avoid attracting these pests and mitigating any possible infestation.
