Ants

The Black Carpenter Ant
Ants’ bodies, in general, are divided into three distinct parts: head, thorax, and abdomen. The thorax is joined to the abdomen by nodes. All ants have six legs, but only reproductive ants have wings.
Black carpenter ants
Black carpenter ants are usually a little larger than the average ant. They can grow up to 2.5 cm. They are also well-known for their ability to damage wooden structures. These ants prefer to build their nests in damp areas, on rotting wood, etc. They feed on food crumbs, spilled food and are attracted to sugar.
Canada has over 100 species of ants, some of which are very destructive and can move in or around your home…as uninvited squatters!
 We know all about ants!
Our highly experienced service professionals are insured, licensed and certified as well as being some of the very few recognized by the Ministère de L’Environnement du Québec in dealing with ant and other infestations.
Identifying an infestation of Carpenter Ants Check all wet wood structures on your property; these can house Carpenter Ants. These dwellings will have the shape of smooth tunnels carved in the wood. Carpenter ants leave traces of sawdust called “excretions” near their nest.
Treating a Carpenter Ant Infestation Check all the damp wooden structures in your home. If this wood can be moved, such as firewood, it should be moved away from your land. To limit the damage, store food in airtight Tupperware® containers.
Don’t leave residues of food on counters, on dirty dishes or on other surfaces where your food is placed or stored because it calls them to dinner!
Then, contact us, your certified pest control exterminator immediately!

Pavement Ants
Description
Pavement ants have distinctive visible grooves on their head and body, as well as having a single pair of spines on the thorax alone.
These ants usually build their nets along the sides of houses, garages and patios which are made of stone, concrete-slabs or asphalt. Although they do not pose a health risk, they can contaminate food and can be a nuisance and a source of embarrassment.
How to Identify a Pavement Ant Infestation
The body of the pavement ant is black, and its legs are brown. If your home has concrete-slab structures, check these areas for signs of infestation.
Treating a Pavement Ant Infestation
An effective means of eradicating pavement ants is to use sugar or protein-bait traps. Place traps at all places where ants have been seen. If you cannot find the nest, use a spray treatment along the foundations and around the adjacent land.

Pharaoh Ants
Description
The Pharaoh ants are easily confused with thief ants; however, the main difference is their antennae. Their colonies can grow up to 100,000 or more.
These types of ants are much more common than people realize. They often go unnoticed since they are so small and blend in the surroundings because of their color.
They’re very common in apartment buildings, grocery stores, retirement houses, hospitals, and many other locations.
Identify a Pharaoh Ant infestation The Pharaoh Ant is easily recognizable by its size; it is approximately 2 mm long and its body is yellow or reddish-brown. Its abdomen (back part of the body) is darker. If you think you have an infestation of pharaoh ants, contact us immediately.
Treating an infestation of Pharaoh Ants
The pharaoh ant is ‘unicolonial.’ which means that several colonies can settle in the same building without being hostile to each other.
They are very difficult to eradicate because these satellite colonies can unite during an attempt to exterminate them and repopulate the nests later. As such, time is of the essence. If you think you are suffering from an infestation of pharaoh ants, contact us without delay.
